Not a good shot

This image was taken in Shieldaig in April 2017;

It was not intentionally a bad picture, it was a snapshot, that did not produce a picture worthy of even the memory it consumes.

Put it in the right hands with the right software and I am sure something could be salvaged, but do you want to spend your time salvaging poor pictures, some people do, but life is too short for that.

Reflecting on this image these are the poor points.

  • Dark corners, this is caused by using a polarised filter on a wide angled lens.
  • What is the focal point: The island, but that looks bland and boring
  • Sloping horizon; This draws your eye from right to left directly past the island
  • Featureless sky; Speaks for itself
  • Featureless sea: Slight swell but offers little for the image
  • Central; Both vertically and horizontally, consider the rule of thirds
  • Look closely at the base, is it a rock? Who knows!!
To give an insight into the points being made above I have taken the same image and changed the outlook by cropping alone. See below the difference, still not as great image but different.
